FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TENNESSEE IS “CRUISING FOR AWARENESS”

Nashville, TN. - January 16, 2009 - The Motorcycle Awareness Foundation of Tennessee (MAFT), has partnered with the Suzuki Owners Club of North America for a 76 city, 76 day tour beginning March 2nd and ending on May 17th. The tour will take riders over our Tennessee roadways with daily stops in towns and cities from Memphis to the mountains of Eastern Tennessee. The Cruising for Awareness tour is designed to highlight public awareness by reminding everyone to stay alert for motorcycles on our highways.

During the last decade, across America, motorcycle sales and rider registrations have nearly quadrupled. For better fuel economy, many people are routinely using 2-wheeled vehicles for their daily transportation needs. Sadly, as registrations increase motorcycle accidents and fatalities have doubled.

Cars and trucks are involved in about one half of all motorcycle accidents and nearly 3/4 of the accidents are the fault of the 4-wheeled vehicle. Driver inattentiveness and other distractions can create a scenario that causes many of these avoidable right-of-way accidents. Due to their smaller profile, motorcycles are not as easily visually recognized as a larger vehicle and can be missed by drivers when merging or turning in traffic. These accidents often result in a fatality or severe injury for the less protected motorcycle rider.

As the 2009 riding season begins, the tour promotes safe riding and acts as a daily reminder for all motorists to stay alert and keep an extra eye open for motorcycles. Motorcycle riders are less protected on our highways than the driver of a car or truck. Today’s riders are your neighbors, coworkers and friends that come from all walks of life.

Cruising for safety rides are scheduled on Saturdays in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville ending with the Suzuki Owners Club Rally in Johnson City from May 31st to June 6th where a drawing for 2 new Suzuki C109RT motorcycles, a trip for 2 and many other prizes will be held.

To obtain an entry form, register at all Tennessee Suzuki dealerships or other host locations. Donations for the tour charities are accepted at all locations.

The “Cruising for Awareness” is accepting donations and raising funds for those organizations that provide support for those stricken with Lupus, the Alliance For Lupus Research, the Wheels through Time Motorcycle Museum, American Red Cross, Motorcycle Awareness Foundation of Tennessee, Bikers Against Child Abuse; Tennessee Chapter and the Suzuki Owners Club of North America.
